Design and Implementation of a Machine Learning Framework for Electrical Impedance Tomography

 

General Setting

Electrical Impedance Tomography is an imaging technique where one induces a current into a medium and measures voltages through electrodes to reconstruct the impedance distribution in the medium in order to reconstruct the underlying material properties. At iMEK we are researching on how to advance this technology to come up with accurate results in real time.

The mesh wire sensor leverages the fact that the conductivity of a material depends on its temperature. For a description how such a sensor could work refer to the pdf below. For further information on the temperature dependence see for example the link on “Spezifischer Widerstand”.

 

We aim to leverage our expertise in Electrical Impedance Tomography to build sophisticated spatially resolving temperature sensors. To do so we require simulations of the physical effects and first reconstructions to derive requirements for hardware components.

Copy of Task Description

  1. Build a Multiphysical Model, that simulates the measurements in the sensor. Research which physical factors are assumed to be relevant in this simulation.

  2. Unify the reconstruction theory in Electrical Impedance Tomography and the theory for the mesh wire sensor.

  3. Reconstruct the heat distribution based on simulated measurements.

  4. Derive hardware requirements for the measurement electronics.
