Programming and Implementation of an STM32-Based EIT Measurement Module

Task Description / Aufgabenstellung

As part of the SFB project at iMEK, a 256-electrode Electrical Impedance Tomography (EIT) system is being developed to enable fast, reliable, and scalable measurements. A key challenge lies in integrating a large number of electrodes into a single system while ensuring high signal integrity and modular expandability.

For the first prototype, an 8-electrode setup has been designed and requires verification. An STM32 microcontroller will be used to control the electronics and perform the measurements.

Given System Architecture:

  • STM32H7 microcontroller

  • 8-channel ADC

  • 2-channel DAC

  • Multiplexer (MUX)

The implementation shall first be carried out using development boards. Once validated, the design will be applied to the actual measurement system.

Requirements and Deliverables:

  • Clean, reusable, and well-documented codebase.

  • Modular software design, with each IC implemented as a separate class.

  • Stepwise development methodology with clear documentation of design decisions.

  • Demonstration of functionality on the prototype hardware.

  • Code and methods prepared to serve as a foundation for future expansions (e.g., scaling up from 8 to 256 electrodes).
